Read what the Edmonton Journal is saying about our big news!

(Edmonton, AB | October 26, 2016) – The Nextfest Arts Company is proud to announce the appointment of its new Festival Director, Ellen Chorley.

Following in the footsteps of outgoing Festival Director Steve Pirot – who, after 15 years as the intrepid leader of Nextfest, has been appointed the new Artistic Director with iHuman Youth Society – Chorley, a long-time Nextfest artist and curator, takes the reigns of Edmonton’s only multi-disciplinary emerging arts festival dedicated to celebrating and elevating the voice of the next generation.

“Nextfest has been a massive part of my development as an artist,” said Chorley. “So many of my firsts happened at the festival – first time as a playwright, first time as a mentor, first time as a curator. I am thrilled that, as Festival Director, I will get to witness the firsts of the next generation of Edmonton’s emerging artists.”

The Nextfest Arts Company is made up of hundreds of young and emerging artists from a wide variety of disciplines, banding together to present Edmonton’s most unique annual multi-disciplinary arts festival: Nextfest. Founded in 1996 by Theatre Network’s Artistic Director Bradley Moss, Nextfest is a common ground for the next generation of creators and producers.

“The board of Nextfest is pleased to announce Ellen Chorley as our new Festival Director,” reported Moss. “Ellen has a long history with Nextfest and she brings her experience as an artist and a curator to the festival, as well as being a talented playwright and producer in her own right as she leads us forward. We are look forward to supporting Ellen in her new role in helping to build Edmonton’s artistic community.”

Nextfest 2017 runs June 1 – 11 in venues throughout Edmonton. Stay tuned to nextfest.ca for details!
