Nextfest 2022: Hell Bent for Leather Submission Call – Smut Nite

Smut Nite 13: HELL BENT FOR LEATHER

We’ve all been pent up, and now it’s time to see how we’ve blossomed.

In the proud tradition of sexual communities that keep each other safe while indulging our deepest desires, Smut Nite is BACK for 2022.

The Den Mother is looking for performances, installations, readings, writings, video, audio, dance, *~*~participatory experiences~*~* and bad ideas that explore themes of subversion, resistance, and resilience.

The moodboard: Leather and lace, outcasts and iconoclasts, touching your lover from 3000 km away, phone sex, chainmail lingerie. Lil Nas X: giving the devil a lapdance AND topping the country charts. Which are the gay textures? Cruising (cars). Cruising (sex). Form over function, the yeehaw agenda, lineages, inheritance, deviance, and dignity. Horny little devils. Ritual, indulgence, excess, discipline, and power. Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. Safe sex, brave spaces, reckless abandon.

Submissions will remain open until the event is full, but priority will be given to projects submitted before May 1, 2022.

Smut Nite will take place as part of Nextfest 2022 on June 10 at the BRAND NEW Roxy on 124.

How to Submit

Submissions can be made with this google form or by emailing the Den Mother directly at nxtfstdenmother@gmail.com

Please read the following before submitting your piece.

CONSIDERATIONS

All participants must be 18+.

Nextfest is an emerging arts festival. We’re here to celebrate artists in the first ten years of their careers, regardless of age.

The new Roxy Theatre is full of new toys for us to play with. The Den Mother can fill you in on found spaces, tech support, and whether or not they’ll let us have a dungeon.

Smut Nite is a kink-positive, body-positive, trans celebratory, and deliberately queered space.

Artists are invited to share their access needs when pitching their piece(s).

Want to get involved, but don’t know how? Get in touch with the Den Mother at nxtfstdenmother@gmail.com and she’ll help you work it out.

COVID

As provincial restrictions (or lack thereof) and best practices evolve, we will have a better picture of what’s possible for Smut Nite. All performers will be asked to show proof of vaccination.

COMPENSATION

Each participating artist will receive free admission to Smut Nite, a Nextfest artist pass, and a festival t-shirt as well as a guaranteed minimum honorarium. The Den Mother is currently looking into sponsorship options to increase artist fees.
