Nextfest 2016 Call for Visual Art Submissions
NEXTFEST 2016 CALL FOR VISUAL ART SUBMISSIONS
Nextfest is now accepting visual art submissions for the 2016 edition, taking place June 2-12! Nextfest is an opportunity for emerging visual artists who are creating new work. This year’s festival has 3 exciting opportunities: in-door exhibition, out-door exhibition, and mural mentorship. Contributing artists will be paid artist fees and receive festival passes to all of Nextfest’s events and performances. Be a part of this dynamic festival!
Please submit to the mural mentorship and the exhibitions separately.
GALLERY & ART PARK EXHIBITIONS
This year the festival is offering a unique opportunity to show art work either in-doors or out-doors. The site of the old Roxy theatre has been filled in and this will be becoming our ‘Art Park’. We will be activating the space with mural and sculpture works. Feel free to dream big with proposals to this space, but remember that the works must be able to withstand the elements. We are taking submissions from individuals and teams.
For the in-door space the curator would prefer to see a body of work, but please feel free to submit a variety of work as well. Both spaces have the potential for installation works and dynamic works that change throughout of the festival.
Application deadline: April 20
Submission guidelines (please include all):
1) 8-12 JPG images of work with image list: title, dimensions, and medium
2) Artist statement
3) Short bio and/or CV
E-mail submissions or questions to:
Steven Teeuwsen / Nextfest Visual Arts Curator: visualarts@nextfest.ca
MURAL MENTORSHIP PROJECT
For the past two years NextFest has run a mural mentorship program. An established mural artist works with a student artist to create the concept and complete execution of a mural on 124 Street. The applicant to this project must be currently enrolled in a post secondary institution. The student artist will be paid an honorarium for their work. The student artist must be available from May 20-31 for the execution of the mural painting.
