I am an emerging artist in Edmonton, currently in my third year of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Alberta, studying painting and printmaking. I moved to Canada three years ago, from Nigeria and that has played a very influential role in my life and artistic practice. In Canada I have been exposed to new ways of thinking about and making art, and have become aware of how works of art are read in a Canadian context. This has been interesting and has helped my work become a bridge between West African art-making ideas and culture, and the North American art-making ideas and cultures I have been exposed to.
In my daily life I find myself concerned with issues of social justice , and it is out of this concern that my current body of work emerges. My works are created to be conversation starters: to present a viewer with certain elements that hint at a narrative, one that the viewer can then discover personally.
